Alternative to Breast Implants
From skin, to creams, to research, stem cells are continuously proving to be ground breaking in our Plastic Surgery community. Doctors at the Bernard O’Brien Institute of Microsurgery in Melbourn, Australia, have introduced an innovated stem cell therapy, Neopec. It offers a natural alternative for women to regrow their breast after cancer surgery. Neopec uses a woman’s own regenerative capacity to grow new fat tissue in her breasts and involves implanting a breast-shaped biodegradable chamber into the chest before surgeons redirect blood vessels into the chamber with the patient’s own fat cells. In the next four to six months, the fat grows into the shape of the chamber, which dissolves ehen the new breast is formed. Neopec hopes to provide a solution that is more natural than tissue transplants or silicone implants. Human trials are due to begin before the middle of the year and once perfected, it would also be offered to woman who have had, defects of previous reconstructions or congenital deformities.

In Southern California with all the sunshine, we see lots of patients with skin cancer. The best way to treat and cure skin cancer is to remove it as early as possible. Surgical excision with precise plastic surgical repair will leave a very fine scar which is barely visible. Most skin cancers can be removed as an outpatient using local anesthesia. This is a painless procedure with excellent results.

Blog 3 of Series
Thursday morning I made sure to wear matching bra and panties -something to make me feel better while a complete stranger looks at my “they’ve been better” areas. I had already received informational brochures and filled out the paper work at home. “Third building, 3rd floor, Suite 351″, I kept repeating to myself as I parked my car. The suite was easy to find (next to the elevator). I was warmly received by the receptionist. She was professional, glamorous and chic with a friendly smile. The reception area presented a “Tommy Bahama” meets Luxury ambiance with, Before and After Photo Portfolios offered through out the area. Impulsively, I reached for the “Liposculpture Portfolio”. I knew I was in the right place by the third photo. Dr. von Maur’s work is stunning. The great, “Leonardo da Vinci”, came to my mind as I viewed the before and after photos. I was on page 5 when a patient care coordinator escorted me into the consultation room. I was in the room within 10 minutes! She was nice and expressed a comfortable personality that made me feel at ease. After a few questions she stepped out, then, introduced me to Dr. von Maur. He is tall, commanding, confident and distinguished. He quietly shook my hand as he looked me in the eyes. He streched the importance of examining my shape objectively together with me present, so that we can look at the whole picture to discuss a plan. To be continued… Come back tomorrow

Q:I’m 35 and have had 2 kids. My tummy and breasts are saggy, and I have unwanted fat in some areas around my hips. I guess I’m the classic candidate for a “MommyMake Over”. But, here’s my concern- I just want to be under anesthesia once! I’m in need of many procedures, can I get everything done all at once and still be safe?
A:
If your general health is optimum, the full “mommy makeover” (breast lift and tummy tuck with hip liposuction) is generally safe as long as a thorough preoperative evaluation has been done and you have been cleared for surgery.

The road to “Sexy Legs-” Step 1

My Dream Body Blog 2
Step#1 calls for Liposuction:
The search for a Plastic Surgeon began with a night out with the girls. I noticed Eva’s adorable sleeveless top was holding itself up. As we talked about our work week, I mentioned I had visited a med spa, and spoken to a surgeon regarding my saddlebags, but I felt unsure. Eva whispered, I’m going to text you. The text read, “he has lots of experience and he “helped me”. I thought, “Well, Eva does have envious breasts, and I’m in the need of “sexy legs“. So, that night, I did what most girls do when we need to research a man…I Googled him. Dr. Burr von Maur; a.k.a. answer to my saddle bag woes. Dr. Burr von Maur is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with over 20 years of experience. The next day I called for a consultation appointment. I asked to be squeezed in any day, any time (after all, this is a Saddlebag Emergency and I have already bought the cutest wedges to go with my future shorts!). My consult was scheduled for that Thursday. Blog 2 of “Road to Sexy Legs” Series.

My Dream Body
I’m 30…(something) and want SEXY LEGS…NOW!
I go to the gym three times per week and it doesn’t help my problem areas. Spring is here, and I would like to feel comfortable wearing cute shorts with sandals (high wedge sandals). My body looks fine, but I have two stubborn saddlebags that are stuck to me and I can’t get rid of them. The derrière is also in need of a boost and traces of cellulite are showing up. I understand that instant gratification is what I want and that’s okay! Follow me as I keep going with my liposuction procedure with BVM! Blog 1 of Series

I have seen ads of face lift procedures that advertise “sedative state” or
“twilight sleep”. How does this differ from full anesthesia?

www.drvonmaur.com
“Sedative local anesthesia (twilight sleep) can be done for face lift procedures as long as the sedative medications are administered by a trained M.D., Anesthesiologist and you are fully monitored with cardiac telemetry, pulse oximetry, blood pressure monitoring, etc. However, most Board Certified Plastic Surgeons prefer to use general anesthesia because they (and the Anesthesiologist) believe that with general anesthesia, the airway can be controlled and less sedative medications are necessary. General anesthesia is definitely safer and more controllable.”
