…Has Cosmetic Surgery become mainstream?
Society appears to be less judgmental about aesthetic procedures and in particular, Cosmetic Surgery. Botox has become a household name and thanks to Baby Boomers, Cosmetic Surgery is on the rise. According to 2 recent surveys by the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (AACS), Facelift and Blepharoplasty (eyes) surgeries have become the new most popular requested cosmetic surgeries:
Facelift surgeries rose 44% from 2008 to 2009
Blepharoplasty surgeries rose 42 % from 2008 to 2009
Also, 71% of respondents think society is less judgmental about Cosmetic Surgery than it was 5 years ago and 62 percent said society’s attitude toward Cosmetic Surgery made them feel more comfortable about getting a procedure. Having work done is not “TABOO’ anymore and refreshing your facial appearance can be done in less that 2 hours.

Procedural Steps- What happens during nose surgery?
- General Anesthesia (Drugs and/or gases used during the operation to relieve pain and alter consciousness)
- The Incision
- Reshaping the nose structure (Occasionally a piece of cartilage from the ear and rarely a section of rib cartilage can be used)
- Correcting a deviated septum (deviated septum: Cartilage that separates the nostrils is misaligned which may cause partial nasal airway obstruction)
- Closing the incision (Additional incisions may be placed in the natural creases of the nostrils to alter their size)
- Splints and internal tubes or packing (may likely be placed inside your nose and on the outside to support and protect the new structures during initial healing)
- Recovery (plenty of sleep and rest helps with the 2 week recovery period)
- Long-Lasting results (It may take up to a year for your new nasal contour to fully refine).

Nose Surgery or Rhinoplasty is one of the 3 most popular Plastic Surgeries. It is performed either using a closed procedure, where incisions are hidden inside the nose, or an open procedure, where an incision is made across the narrow strip of tissue that separates the nostrils (the columella). Through these incisions, the soft tissues that cover the nose are gently raised, allowing access to reshape the structure of the nose. Surgery of the nose is a highly individualized procedure.

Eyelid Surgery also known as Blephoraplasty is performed both on the upper and lower eyelids. Blephoraplsty addresses under-eye bags, lax redundant skin, and can soften the deep circles under the eyes. It involves incisions in the natural crease of your eyelid so excess fat and skin can be removed. Notice how it can remarkably improve the overall appearance of the face.

Q: Dr. von Maur, you mentioned that your Orange County Plastic Surgery office and the entertainment industry often collide, would you be more specific?
A: “In our OC Plastic Surgery office, one of our popular cosmetic request, (and a noticeable beauty fad within the last 3 years), is full lips-like Angelina Jolie’s. We have often had women bring in photos of Bay Watch star, Pamela Anderson using her photos as an example of their desired Breast Augmentation. This year, the requests for Post Bariatric Cosmetic Surgery has increased tremendously. I believe due in part by the innovative “Lap Band” Bariatric Surgery and the various popular entertainment personalities that have received the Lap Band Surgery. I’m proud to say that our office provides you with movie star wishes and scientific know hows.”

Q: Dr von Maur, I am of ‘Eastern European’ ethnicity and wish to have a Rhinoplasty. My concern is that I’ll lose my distinguish characteristics. How can I avoid this from happening?
A: ” Although people with similar ethnic backgrounds may demonstrate comparable nasal qualities, each patient should be evaluated and treated individually depending upon his or her individual goals. Improving aesthetics while maintaining ethnic characteristics is considered in every Rhinoplasty consultation. Unveiling your New Beauty doesn’t mean losing your existing natural beauty.”

Harsh profile elements are softened and beauty is enhanced.
